Christian Growth – From Milk to Meat

Woman with Bible with Logo.001

In the New Testament an analogy is made that new Christians are like babes drinking milk, but at some point in their growth they need to move to the meat of the word. Otherwise, their growth as Christians will stagnate. Here are some verses on this topic.

1 Peter 2:2, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby…”

Hebrews 5:13-14, “For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”

1 Corinthians 3:2, “I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.”

At some point in your growth as a Christian you should move from the “milk” to the “meat” of the word and dig deeper into the truths of the Bible.

Growing as a Christian involves many aspects, such as memorizing Bible verses, having a personal daily devotional time, and sharing what you know with others, but for this post we’ll focus on Philippians 4:8.

Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

As we grow as Christians we should fill our minds with those things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, and of virtue. Do you spend more time watching secular movies than reading your Bible? Do you spend more time listening to secular music than reading your Bible?

If you spend more time with worldly things instead of with God, then try to watch or listen to sermons online (ROKU, YouTube, etc.) instead of watching a movie. Start slow and make gradual changes in your habits and pray that God will change your tastes and open your mind to spiritual things.

Here are some great pastors that you can find online (even on your smart phone), so give them a try and listen to their sermons full of “meat”.

Pastor Randy Skeete. He has a great booming voice and an amazing memory! He opens his Bible at the beginning and then never refers to it, instead every Bible text is quoted from his memory! His messages are direct and to the point and full of practical methods to apply what he’s talking about and is full of “meat” for the growing Christian. Here’s an example of one of his sermons.

Pastor Doug Batchelor. He is the President/Speaker for the Amazing Facts Ministry. His messages are plain and simple to understand, but full of “meat” as well. He is the first person that I heard that spoke the truth about Bible doctrines. Here is an example of one of his sermons which is the truth about hell.

Dwayne Lemon. His sermons are direct and to the point. No sugar coating in his messages! Of course, his messages are full of biblical “meat”. The message below was given at a youth conference in England so it’s perfectly tailored to new Christians.

Here are some other great pastors/speakers (look them up on YouTube or AudioVerse and see which ones you like):

  1. Pastor John Bradshaw

  2. Pastor Walter Veith

  3. Evangelist Taj Paclib

  4. Pastor Stephen Bohr

  5. Pastor Dennis Preiebe

  6. Pastor Anil Kanda

accept the TRUTH,

and be a LIGHT in this dark world.”
